Context

A small African team building a crypto-focused radio show to serve and educate their local ecosystem, with a focus on a major Web3 network. They needed serious grant funding from a global, politics-heavy ecosystem where money usually flowed to the same big, familiar players.

Problem

On paper, they looked like long shots. Most prior marketing grants had gone to well-connected firms in Europe and North America. The team had the will and the concept, but not the grant machinery, documentation, or pitch strategy to be taken seriously.

Approach

I helped them treat the grant like an enterprise sale. We built a detailed plan: programming calendar, audience metrics, collaborator list, and exact budget flows. We designed a CRM-backed outreach process with both internal and public-facing transparency on how funds would be used. Then we pressure-tested the narrative and objections based on my prior experience consulting on Web3 grants so the founder knew exactly how to handle resistance.

The team secured roughly $350K in grant funding for the radio initiative in a declining, skeptical market. They went from "unlikely" to fully funded with a clear, accountable plan for execution.

Impact

For me, despite having helped raise far larger sums in other contexts, this remains one of the proudest capital-raising wins because of how much structural bias and market fatigue we had to fight through.

Lessons

Underdog teams can win institutional money, but not with vibes and hope. You need ruthless clarity, transparent systems, and the patience to answer the same hard questions until trust is built.

Why this matters to you

For founders and operators outside the usual power centers who need to convince conservative or political stakeholders that they are the safest, most serious bet on the table.
